Question, is there any plan to update the posting features. Features like a spell checker, formating buttons(bold/underline,etc) and add smiley face icons into the interface for posting messages? I love the forums themselves, but I'm missing some of these basic features..

I know there are formating codes, but for my end users to use them regularly, well, it would allieviate some complaints I'm getting.

oh. and Polling and Calender features would be very cool. :)

Unless someone has made some Mods/add-ons of that nature.. that would work too!

Spell checker might be quite the undertaking, but I have had a lot of requests for the formatting buttons and I'm seriously considering working on it. I don't think I ever want to fully integrate a WYSIWYG editor because I really like the simpleness, but some basic formatting buttons might be a good addition.

Haven't considered a calendar before, but definitely have considered polls. It was actually on a few of my last change documents but for whatever reason I always knock it off before release.

Spell cheker, maybe/maybe not. Check this out. It's called GoogieSpell:http://orangoo.com/labs/GoogieSpell/

SnitzForums 2000 uses this as an add-on. As for formating, your right, doesn't need to be full formating. Take a look at my old guild forums: http://jackals.glws.net/forums/post.asp?method=Topic&FORUM_ID=25

I'm in the process of moving over to yours; its at www.cojonline.info if your curious.

This is really, more or less, what I'm looking for.. Format section and Spell check. Some of the other stuff I don't really care for. Although the Smiley Faces can be funny.

I can kind of do the polls, calendar, and News sections with DMG Forums because it's more of a Portal, which is cool. However, the spell check and formating would be pushing it for me.

Snitz Forums isn't as flexible as yours when it comes to being a portal, and they are not really updating it. The one concept they did have I liked was the 'add-on' concept. I was able to adde polls, calendar, spell check and news sections.

EDIT: They say they are duel license with GoogieSpell, not sure how DMG forums would fall under that..

I also am noticing that even when I'm logged in, the lastest topics do not get listed unless they are an all visitors setting. Is it possible to put under the lastest topics the Members only forums as well when a member is logged in?

This is another change that I've been considering as well. The same thing happens for things like threads that require approval in the latest topics or active topics pages. It required a significant amount of code to do the logic for this, so when these modules were designed I decided to just make them for fully-viewable topics and forums for the time being. But now that it's stable your suggestion is something that does need to be added.

As for add-ons I've considered something like this as well, but I'm not sure. I kind of like to have everything that's available be a part of the code and allow the admin to turn them on or off. I do have a module that I've written for some of my own sites that integrates a full e-commerce system and shopping cart into a DMG Forums portal, but I'm not sure if I'll do a public release for that or not. Not sure if the demand is there, but if it was, that would be something that could be an add-on module.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I think I'll definitely add the format buttons to my list of goals for the next version.
