<!-- Comment the SQL connection string and uncomment the two lines below for MySQL -->
<!-- <add key="DatabaseString" value="DRIVER={MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver};SERVER=YOUR_SERVER;DATABASE=YOUR_DATABASE;UID=YOUR_USERNAME;PASSWORD=YOUR_PASSWORD;OPTION=3;" /> -->

According to the error, the web page is unable to connect to localhost\SQLEXPRESS with this username and password. Something is setup wrong with the database. The software appears to be working as long as you are now seeing that message. At least you have gotten past your IIS errors.

i have found that i can connect through visual studio 2005 the connection string there is Data Source=DESKTOP-BD68465\SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=mk2;Integrated Security=True

the connection string in web.config file is <add key="DatabaseString" value="Driver={SQL Server};Server=localhost\SQLEXPRESS;Database=mk2;Integrated Security=True;Uid=loginname;Pwd=password;"/>

can you tell me what is going wrong?

You don't need a UID and PWD in the connection string if you are using integrated security. You probably will need to set your web.config connection string to something like this.

<add key="DatabaseString" value="Driver={SQL Server};Server=DESKTOP-BD68465\SQLEXPRESS;Database=mk2;Trusted_Connection=yes;"/>

However, once you put this over the web you will want to have a username and password assigned to have access to the database. In that case you will use this.

<add key="DatabaseString" value="Driver={SQL Server};Server=DESKTOP-BD68465\SQLEXPRESS;Database=mk2;Uid=YOUR_USERNAME;Pwd=YOUR_PASSWORD;"/>
